Ballona Creek Today

Ballona Creek emerges from underground Los Angeles in a concrete box. As it flows toward the ocean, the sides become banked, and near the ocean the bottom becomes natural. There are pleasant curves, greenery, and shore birds.

Problems which need to be solved...

Left: A net across the creek about a mile from the ocean captures most floating trash, but it is removed during heavy storms because of the volume and force of the water surging down the creek.
Below: Large items such as this bicycle are often dumped into Ballona Creek

Left: Heavy algae growth due to runoff from lawn fertilizer, agricultural products and other chemicals

Graffiti along the bikepath and in the channel
