Kay Alderson
Kay Alderson

Kay Alderson is a Life Science teacher at Culver City Middle School. She is the recipient of three back-to-back Teacher Achievement Award grants (Eisenhower grants), has won two awards from the Culver City Unified School District for outstanding contributions to the community, and was a 2001 nominee for the Walt Disney Teacher of the Year award. Kay also serves on the boards of the Ballona Lagoon Marine Preserve and Friends of Ballona Wetlands.

Lucy Blake-Elahi is a visual artist. She paints and draws, and has done public art pieces in Culver City. Her work includes the equatorial sundial in Culver City Park and two murals along Ballona Creek. She is also an artist-in-residence of the County of Los Angeles.

June Walden

June was born in Culver City and has lived near the Creek all her life. Her teaching career spanned 35 years, with an emphasis on science/ecology/habitat. In addition to her involvement with BCR, she is also an active member of the Friends of Ballona Wetlands, leading tours on both the salt and new fresh water marshes.

My dream is a creek channel that provides natural habitat filled with plants and critters and which is accessible to all."

Bob Hadley

Bob retired in 1995 after 30 years on the faculty of California State University, Los Angeles. Since 1996, he has served as Secretary to the Culver City Parks & Service Foundation.

A long-time resident of Culver City, Irene taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 30 years. She is a member of several environmental groups and is dedicated to safeguarding our environment.

Lori Escalera - Advisory Council

Lori grew up in Culver City and graduated CCHS in 1975. A designer and artist, Lori has provided a complete array of graphics, advertising, marketing, communications and art services to large and small business, as well as institutions. Lori is an original member of BCR, lead artist on the "Rivers of the World" Mural Project, and a collaborator on BCR's "Postcards" mural project. Marina Tidwell

Author and photographer of Beyond the Beach Blanket, A Field Guide to Southern California Wildlife, Marina has lived in Culver City for over 20 years. She grew up in northern California, just steps from Monterey’s Fisherman’s Wharf, has lived near the beach in Carmel, Coronado, San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and has been a dedicated beach bum from the time she could walk. A graduate of USC School of Cinema-Television, Marina's wildlife photographs have appeared in Windstar Wildlife Institute publications and All-creatures.org, among others. She is also a member of the Speaker’s Bureau of Heal the Bay, and a dedicated birdwatcher who writes for the magazine Birding Business.
